This video explores the positive impact of a very popular djembe drumming class in the Youthful Offender Unit at the MCCF by Class Acts Arts’ Project Youth ArtReach. The eight-week course is taught by Ghanaian Master Drummers, Kofi Dennis and Kwame Anseh-Brew, and facilitated by Director of Project Youth ArtReach Claire Schwadron.

Here, Kofi Dennis demonstrates the Kpanlogo (PAHN-lo-go) rhythm from Ghana on the djembe, The basic 5 beat pattern is usually is usually played by the cowbell, and the Kpanlogo peg drum carries the other parts.

This video shows Kofi Dennis teaching the basics of the Calypso Rhythm for djembe: ta-BOOM ti-BOOM plus variations.
